Started on this book after it was mentioned on the cave women looking after babies thread. And I'm addicted.

Never even heard of the books before and tried to explain them to a friend and the plot just sounds really dull, yet I can't get enough.

Listening to book 2 now and listening to them on audiable, not sure if I would be so into them if reading.

I absolutely loved these as a teenager. Might have to read them again!

CormorantStrikesBack · 19/05/2024 19:18

Also read them 20 odd years ago and loved them.

But what is it about the stores you loved? I can't stop listening, yet I can't say why

I read them 20 plus years ago, just found them fascinating.

Mum loved the series and passed them on to me. There is a film starring Daryl Hannah.

Malbecmoron · 19/05/2024 19:25

They are brilliant. Well mostly, the quality drops a bit in the last two or three. Must look for the cavewomen looking after babies thread, sounds great!

Read them all in my teens and recently started reading them again. They are well researched although with the information we have now about Neanderthals inaccurate in some ways.

I you enjoy this series I can also recommend the Wilderness series by Sara Donati.

I really wanted to like this book but I hated it and couldn't finish it. The outdated stereotyped nonsense wound me up too much to keep listening.

CarrotPotatoRooster · 19/05/2024 19:33

I've listened to them all. Was sad when I got to the end of the series!

JT69 · 19/05/2024 19:34

Loved these books. Just give the last one a miss as it’s awful and should never have been published.

Hedjwitch · 19/05/2024 19:35

Loved this series.

I liked them as a late teen/20s but even then all the shagging got a bit boring.

I also got a bit fed up with whatever she's called inventing everything constantly.

Hatecleaninglovecleanhouse · 19/05/2024 21:26

Loved them but yeah, the cringy sex and her inventing every fucking thing ever became a parody of itself.

I read them 20 years ago or so, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I waited a while for the last one and ended up being very disappointed and a bit bored, to the extent that I didn't bother to finish it. I loved the first two or three, and would probably read them again if there weren't already so many books in my to be read pile!
