What did you think?

I was totally gripped but found the ending disappointing. But the rest of the book seemed to excuse the ending somehow!

I finished it before going to work this afternoon.! Not at all disappointed! Far from it! Loved it. What a page turner!!

I found the end scenes in the warehouse really disturbing and the messaging coming out of it quite troubling

Felt the same, loved it up to the ending where I then doubled checked the author was indeed female.

Bruisername · 12/03/2024 21:05

Yes I did too! Glad it wasn’t just me.

I loved it, the ending was disturbing but I felt like it fitted with the while tone of the book

Dontdoit1 · 12/03/2024 21:08

Same here. I did wonder if there's some cultural aspect that I was missing, but maybe not.
I have everything of hers that's been translated into English. There's not much which is a shame as I really like her work.

Bruisername · 12/03/2024 21:18

which of her other books would you recommend to read next?

If you liked Out, try 'Grotesque' next.

Bruisername · 12/03/2024 21:30

I don’t think I could read another brutal rape scene from her again though

There's also Real World and In. I think In may be out of print.
The Goddess Chronicle is a different sort of book and is a modern reworking of an old Japanese myth.
Soft Cheek was due to be translated a few years ago but it never happened.

I read it probably about 15 years ago now and remember being blown away by it at the time and lending it to friends who also loved it. I think I'll give it a re-read. I have the goddess chronicles on my shelves to read as well. I read Grotesque and Real World at the time but they are nowhere near as good as Out.

Bruisername · 13/04/2024 11:28

I’ve just finished the goddess chronicle which I enjoyed very much.

I will try real world
