Does anyone write books like this anymore? I want to read something equally filthy and intelligent - help me out

Oh yes please Smile

I'm going with The Idea of You by Robinne Lee. Lots of hot sex but within the context of a well written story.

marchionessbegan · 06/03/2024 18:34

"The Butcher" by Alina Reyes, although it's a very short novel. It's in an omnibus with a couple of her other books, but I'm afraid I didn't like them so much.

There's a film of "The Idea of You" out around now, btw.

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 06/03/2024 18:37

Another vote for The Idea Of You.

Fanny by Erica Jong, the sexiest book I have ever read and also wonderfully well written. It’s an 18th century romp written by a feminist icon.

Come to think of it I must be due a re-read.

Anything by KJ Charles - filthy but also very well written. If you're happy with m/m then A Seditious Affair is set in the 18th C & combines a plot featuring radical politics & the Cato Street conspiracy with a LOT of sex.

Newgirls · 06/03/2024 22:12

Damage? Tho there is an age gap.

Someone like you? About actors

maestra? About a dominatrix killer?!

This is more like it

Erica Jong! My mum had a copy of Fear of Flying that I used to sneak into my room as a kid. I'll check this out, thank you.

(Is anyone still writing books like this? They seem to have died out some time in the last century)

How about D. H. Lawrence? Lady Chatterley's Lover and Women in Love are worth reading. In fact, many think Women in Love is one of the greatest novels of the 20th-century. Both full of sex as well😁.

This is sort of thing I'm talking about. I've read both but would love to find something in this vein from our own time. Ie. These books are erotic but they're also 'about' sex rather than just pornographic for its own sake

Alan Hollinghurst, if you don't mind M/M.

Riverlee · 13/03/2024 22:10

Jilly Cooper
Jackie Collins

  • these two authors jumped to mind.
Lace - Shirley Conran - long time since I’ve read it but your post rem8bded me of it.
TheGander · 19/03/2024 21:41

Sexiness is in the mind of course but I found Russian Novel by Emmanuel Carrere sexy.

I'd never heard of this, thank you

I hope you enjoy it. It’s not a serene novel, it’s really about erotic obsession, infidelity, all the messy stuff but written by someone who obviously enjoys sex a lot and isn’t shy about writing about it.

OhMargaret · 25/03/2024 20:23

Sounds good, just ordered a copy - thank you

Bonding by Mariel Franklin

Brigerton - ok, set in the past but fits your bill, and actually not bad reads.

Jilly Cooper
Jackie Collins

Stowickthevast · 04/07/2024 19:00

I'm listening to Miranda July's latest offering All Fours and have to keep turning it off on the train!
Her previous novel The First Bad Man shall has loads of sex.

The Paper Palace - Miranda Cowley too.

Romantasy tends to be full of sex but not sure if ticks the good writing box!

Tiddlywinkly · 04/07/2024 20:22

Thanks for the suggestions. Not to de-rail, but I'm still looking for the holy grail of Christmas reads that tick Christmas, sexy and has a bit more story to it.

Geelonggetalong · 04/07/2024 20:37

'Savages', Shirley Conran.

cassiatwenty · 05/07/2024 12:47

Asking for a friend where to start with Jilly Cooper? This friend only managed to find Tackle (bookstore) but MN says it's not her best lol

Where to start? Any standalone books?

Any advice for my cough friend? 😛

Stowickthevast · 05/07/2024 14:08

Riders then Rivals for Jilly.

Riders possibly hasn't aged as well but chronologically that's first.

cassiatwenty · 05/07/2024 14:47

Thank you @Stowickthevast
