I never know what to spend my limited money on, so I'd like some suggestions.
I like crime books like Shadow murderer or Jack reacher.

Mine is The Crow Road by Iain Banks.

If you're looking for a good crime thriller book, I'd suggest The Dry by Jane Harper. It's the first in a trilogy, or her standalone novel The Lost Man.

So many, but the one that pops into my head this morning is Music and Silence by Rose Tremain.

This would be mine for a crime book too. Have you read The Exiles (3rd in the Falk series)? It literally gave me chills.

Oops, missed the crime brief. In that case, anything by Tess Gerritsen.

ParrotPirouette · 02/03/2024 10:06

Go to a library?

I have. Jane Harper's novels are an auto-read for me. I've read all of her novels so far.

Very good idea, if you have a limited budget. I use the library's online app, Borrowbox for a lot of my reading - ebooks and audiobooks.

Christopher Brookmyre is very readable. The later books are more pure crime than political/comedy/crime. I prefer the earlier books, but the later ones are good too. The straight ones tend to have 'Chris' rather than 'Christopher' as the author, so they're easy to spot.

Box 88 series by Charles Cumming is good. Not exactly crime though, it's a spy thriller, but easy to read.

Tamar - Mal Peet. A really shocking ending.
Station Eleven - Emily St John Mandel
Fingersmith - Sarah Waters
