How old is your kindle? Should I get a new one?

Just realised my kindle Paperwhite is 10 years old! I don't think I've ever had a piece of tech last that long. Going on holiday in a few weeks and dreading it breaking. It's a bit slow but ok. Should I upgrade? Grateful for opinions!!

The adverts are fine, it's just on the screensaver page when you wake it up - they don't keep popping up......or mine doesn't anyway.

I’ve been very happy with my basic one. I spent a lot of time researching the difference between the basic and paper white and (for me) couldn’t see sufficient reason to pay more for the Paperwhite. However everyone is different and has their own ideas on what’s worth the money.

I’m pretty sure you can pay later to get the adds removed if they bother you. I paid at the time of purchase for no ads.

Ads just means you get a book title on the wake up page.

I got a Paperwhite with no ads because they were on offer and I had vouchers to spend! But I've had basics for about 12 years and never felt the need for anything fancier!

Thanks! Think I want the paper white as that's the one with the light, right?

Maybe I'll save the money and get it with ads and opt out later then...

You get a backlight with the basic one. There are of course features of the Paperwhite which makes it better than the basic- just depends on what you want.

How does the trade/in work, I went through the process on the Amazon website but it wanted to charge me £15 so I declined the transaction.

Google 'kindle trade in uk' and it go through the process with it. It sent me from my phone browser directly to the right bit in the Amazon app. No cost. They sent a postage label. I dropped it off Friday. They received it this morning and sent me the email fairly soon after

When I went through the process on Amazon it asked me to approve payment in my credit card app, this asked me to approve a payment of £15 so I declined.
