I have been going through a stressful time lately, and Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series has really helped. Anyone like them?

I love Kinsey's one dress wardrobe, her relationship with Henry, her terrible diet....

So sad the author died at Y.

Yes, me too. Read them all, still have them because DH says he’ll read them 'one day'. I also enjoy the rather comforting sameness of them, though the fact that Henry and his siblings are so hale and hearty in their 90s seems a bit unlikely.

I think they went through a slightly dull patch about midway through but Sue Grafton pulled them back towards the end. So sad that she never managed to complete the series.

I think I stopped reading them midway, no especial reason that I can recall. I'll have to start reading them again - it's so refreshing to have a woman character unashamedly centred on her career and pleasing herself.

I am listening to Ngaio Marsh's Inspector Allyn series, they are amusing

Some of them were made into TV series, they get repeated on the Drama channel; with the books you have to overlook that Alleyn's career is about sixty years old and still going strong 😆

Yes I loved them, Kinsey was such a great character.

I was waiting and waiting for Z to appear then read on MN that she'd died, such a shame.

I've just started the James Patterson Women's Murder Club series which has got off to a promising start, there's 20 years worth so hope they continue to be a good read

Love the Alphabet series and Kinsey, she's a brilliant representation of womanhood.

The women's murder club, wasn't that the series where in the the first book the lawyer characters had a miscarriage as punishment for refusing to give up her job when she got pregnant? I couldn't get past that.

I love that Kinsey’s perfectly happy living on her own & doesn’t show any sign of longing for a partner & kids.

Loved the earlier ones. I remember though giving up on R. It was completely different and focused far too much on a romantic relationship. The character seemed to be losing her feisty edge.

I loved them too and think they would make a great TV series but apparently, Sue Grafton had been a screen writer and instructed her dc that they were never to sell the screen rights.

I can understand why she wouldn’t have wanted it but I’ve just found this. Apparently her family decided to do it anyway. https://deadline.com/2021/10/sue-grafton-kinsey-millhone-alphabet-book-series-tv-adaptation-ae-studios-1234850816/amp/
