As a juxtaposition from the other thread about one to have as your friend.

Doesn't have to be a villainous type maybe just tedious or untrustworthy...

Gwendoline from Mallory Towers
Lady Catherine de Burgh from Pride and prejudice
Lady Slane (wonderful lady)'s children in All Passion Spent
Guy Pringle in The Levant Trilogy (reminds me of an ex😡)

Off the top of my head:

Cruella de Ville
Nurse Ratched
Annie Wilkes
Jack Torrance
Mrs Danvers
Robert Ewell (Mayella Violet's dad)
Milkman
The Commander and his wife from Gilead

Obviously any murderer from a thriller!

DontBeAPrickDarren · 05/02/2024 18:32

Patrick Bateman.

Mrs Norris from Mansfield Park. Complete cow.

OriginalBirds · 05/02/2024 19:25

Gilbert Osmond from The Portrait of a Lady. Come to that, Madame Merle from Portrait of a Lady -- kind of the original mean girl.)

The Bingley sisters from Pride and Prejudice -- they would always be giving your clothes the side-eye and sneering at your lack of accomplishments.

Any of Marianne's boyfriends from Sally Rooney's Normal People.

Othello -- the kind of bore who was always getting you into a corner and banging on about his military exploits and the Anthropopagi and men whose head do grow beneath their shoulders etc. You'd never shut him up. And that's not even mention the murderous jealousy.

Stephen Dedalus. The original emo bore.

Patrick Bateman.

Beat me to it. Had to hide the bloody book in the freezer.

Don't suppose anyone remembers this book but Roscoe Rules from The Choir boys.

No one who has read that book would consider calling a little boy Roscoe.

The narrator in My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh . I know it's meant to be satirical and I'm not the demographic it's aimed at. Even so I'd struggle not to tell her to stop whining and do something useful!

Uriah Heep
Count Dracula

Oddly, I would quite like to meet Hannibal Lecter, though. I would want to impress him and make him like me. Is that how others feel about Hannibal?

Samuel Whiskers
Mr Collins

Ambertonix · 07/02/2024 20:16

Joe Goldberg from the YOU series because i would most probably fall for his charm and it can only end in disaster!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/02/2024 14:14

Lucy Ferrars - if ever a woman was a frenemy...
Obadiah Slope
O'Brien (1984 not Downton Abbey 😀)
Jacob Marley

Ooh Uriah Heep - good one!

No, too scared to meet Hannibal Lecter!

😂

Judith Anderson's portrayal particularly shiver inducing.

Yes I think I'd find Jacob Manley undoing his bandage and his jaw dropping would be too unnerving even if the apparition was just "a bit of undigested beef"; "more of gravy than of grave"

That's one of my favourite bits of Dickens.
