The Satsuma Complex - suitable to send friend in rehab?

Hi all, I have a friend who's in rehab at the moment for drink and drugs. I'd like to send her a lighthearted novel but obviously want to avoid anything that a) glamourises drink and drugs or b) has a sad storyline about addiction. Just needs to be an escape.

I've been meaning to read The Satsuma Complex by Bob Mortimer - can anyone tell me if it fits my criteria? Or one of Richard Osman's?

Recommendations very much appreciated.

I really enjoyed The Satsuma- it's light hearted enough and even though there are pub scenes I don't think the main message is any way able to be worrying about in connection to addiction.

I liked it a lot but I thought it had a few disturbing themes like the girl had a difficult life and was being abused by her ex. I wouldn't call it a cosy exactly.

Something I liked but haven't seen much hype about here was the DallerGut Dream Department Store by Miye Lee - big in Korea and might be a nice change. About working in a dream department store, so not very nitty gritty but gentle and imaginative.

What about a Marian Keyes? She got me through a very difficult time in my life.

But maybe not Rachel's Holiday since that is about rehab.

I'd go with Richard Osman

This sounds lovely, might read it myself!

Thanks all for the advice. Does seem slightly risky so I think I'll go with good old Osman.

Although the last Richard Osman is about drug dealers getting shot so maybe not that one!
