Is that such a thing?

I need a more read and would like a Christmas book but not sure I want a romance book.

I have just finished Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. The beginning is irritating, but it is worth staying with it.

Alex Pine had written a series of crime novels set over the Christmas period, but tbh they could be at any time of year - just with added hand-wringing from the cops involved who don't get to be with their families.

I'm currently reading The Haunting Season. It's a collection of 8 short stories - tag line says "Ghostly Tales for Long Winter Nights". I'm on the 3rd one and enjoying it so far. Got it from the middle of Lidl for £3.

In my Christmas TBR pile I've also got:
The Girl Who Saved Christmas by Matt Haig
The Christmas Book by Enid Blyton (which someone recommended on another thread)
Happy Christmas by Daphne du Maurier

The first two are children's books. I don't think the Daphne du Maurier is a romance one. Picked them up from world of books 👍

I'm after similar. All the Christmas books are about romance! I'd really like a Christmas book about family but not a "why mummy drinks at Christmas" type one. Basically the same as the romance ones, all cosy and festive, but about family life rather than 20 or 30 something's falling in love. Sadly, I don't think anybody has written this book!

The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper.
The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy M Boston.
The Box of Delights by John Masefield.
Cold Christmas by Nina Beachcroft.
These are all officially children’s books but are read and loved by many adults.

A Highland Christmas by MC Beaton - one of the Hamish Macbeth series.
A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg has a very little romance in it but it is a very peripheral part of the novel.
Miss Read wrote several Christmas titles: Village Christmas, Christmas at Thrush Green, The Christmas Mouse, The White Robin and No Holly for Miss Quinn are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. All pleasant, light enjoyable reads.

There's one by Liz Davies called A Typical Family Christmas on kindle deals at the moment. Any use?

@JaneJeffer sounds like it could be just up my street, I'll have a look. Thank you!
