I love cosy Christmas books bit get fed up that they're all romance heavy.
I love Christmas at fairacre/Christmas mouse by miss read and the Christmas mystery by jostein gaarder. I also love Enid Blytons Christmas book too😳
Any other ideas? I'm thinking of reading some festive books between now and Christmas as I've just finished the life's and lies of jimmy saville and feel a bit grim afterwards

It’s not exactly cosy but The Dark Is Rising is my comfort midwinter read.

Not my type but thank you as I think my son would love those!

How about A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles? The Midnight Library by Matt Haig? The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn?
None of them are specifically about Christmas but I think they’re all cosy 😊

I started a thread about this last year. It might help, there were some good recommendations.

Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. It’s one of those books (like Wuthering Heights, 1984, Tess of the D’Urbevilles, Pride and Prejudice, etc) that people don’t actually read. They’re so famous, and the story is so familiar, that we don’t bother. It’s worth it though.

Gifts by Laura Barnett, it was out last Christmas and is lovely - lots of characters, heartwarming, only a dash of romance (I don't do romance at all so have zero tolerance for it!)

And second Christmas Carol, one of my fave books, it's brilliant and perfect for Christmas!

The Children of Greene Knowe?

WrongSwanson · 14/11/2023 20:29

Following. I shall try and remember ones I have read and enjoyed too!

I quite enjoyed Christmas with the Savages

There are some Christmassy Rumpole books and possibly some PG Wodehouse ones ? (Sorry for vagueness)

Loved A Red Bird Christmas by Fannie Flagg.

MissyB1 · 14/11/2023 20:41

Hercule Poirot’s Christmas.

Winter Ghosts - Mosse
The Gift - Aherne
Christmas Carol - Dickens
Call of the Penguins - Prior
Snow Child - Ivey

Have you read Christmas at Thrush Green? It's the last one written in the style of Miss Read. No Holly for Miss Quinn is one of my favourite books.

Box of delights? Kids book, though.

British library published some Christmas themed crime stories.

A country house Christmas (but you need to overlook experience of everyone producing this wonderful Christmas).
