I had some time off, so finally got round to reading The Ink Black Heart. On the whole, I really enjoyed it. A bit frustrated by the lack of progress in the Strike/Robin storyline, but I suspect JK needs to keep us all in suspense for a few books yet.

For probably the first time in a Galbraith/Rowling novel though, I felt really let down by the end, and, in particular, the reveal of Anomie. In previous books I’ve always felt satisfied at the big reveal that it all made sense and that the threads pulled together, but it just didn’t work for me this time.

Some of the questions I have:

Why did Gus only go after only Edie and not Josh at the outset? Given his mother’s obsession with Josh I would have thought he hated her too?

Why did he decide to kill Edie and Josh in the first place? Just because of the film deal?

How did Gus meet and become friends with Morehouse who was obviously such a good guy? Surely Morehouse would have seen through him far quicker?

Why did he snap when he did? His father had been super abusive many times before?

Any thoughts welcome!
