Jacqueline Wilson for young teens?

Hey all,

My niece is a BIG reader (like her aunt) and has made her way through dozens of Wilson books but is now getting to the age where these are a bit ‘kiddish’ for her. Can you recommend any books or authors that cover similar, real-life themes that are a bit more grown up? She’s 13, turning 14 in August, and I want to get her lots of new stuff to read for her birthday.

Thanks!

Could you take her book shopping instead of buying her something she might not like? I'd have really appreciated choosing my own books at that age.

Yes to Louise rennison.

Another great series (that I still love) is the Diary of a Crush books by Sara Manning

Also has she read the Jacqueline Wilson for older teens? Girls in love, Love lessons, Vicky Angel etc?

I used to like Grace Dent as a teenager - very funny writer

Thanks all - she’s definitely more of the gritty life drama than teenage crush kind of stuff. I’m sure that’ll all change very quickly though! She’s asked for books which is why I’m picking some (otherwise I’d just take her book shopping and buy loads for myself too)

Going to go through these recommendations and see what I can find!
