I love Robin Hobb but she is a recent discovery. Really wish I hadn't been reading the Fool's Errand on my commute home. I feel like I need tomorrow off work!

It's a great series. Hmm, may need to do a reread...

I wont cope if there is more! I've read so many books and not really had this before. Maybe it's my age!

Oh dear 😬😬😬

I am loving the rereads on this thread. I too have done this. Finished the last few chapters of Fool's Errand just to remind me where OP was up to and am now on Golden Fool. Two things @LuciferRising one is yes, it is a melancholic book but it is to set the scene, the tone of the world Fitz has been away from and two prepare yourself to be more emotional. I am nine chapters in (fast reader because I have read them so often before) and have sobbed already. That is all I will say.

Mine are now on the Kindle because I was worried the original paperbacks were going to fall apart from rereading. This has happened with a couple of books including Trudi Canavan The Black Magician Trilogy books as both my sons read these too and took them into school every day at secondary as they were allowed to read for 30 minutes a day during form time. Trashed I tell you, but well loved.

I can feel a reread coming on too now, thank you for your thread! I think I reread these about every 5 years so it must be my fourth time!

I am currently reading the fourth Brandon Saunderson Cytonic book - I love all of his books too…

CaptainCallisto · 09/06/2023 06:59

I'm coming to the end of my latest reread. I'm midway through Fool's Assassin (which I always find a bit of a slog - definitely the weakest of the 16!) and am trying to time it so I'm not reading Assassin's Fate in the staffroom at work. I don't think I've ever cried so hard at anything in my life!

I think I've reread them about once a year since 2003. I was so excited when she started the Rainwild Chronicles!

NeedANewPhone1 · 09/06/2023 07:12

Golden Fool is the one that left me an emotional wreck. Good luck!

LuciferRising · 09/06/2023 09:29

I'm reading on the Kindle too. Which I find frustrating because I want to keep going back to some of the quotes or conversations. I think there needs to be a Robin Hobb book of quotes.

I'll be reading at a slower pace. I try to write first and then read before bed otherwise I'll be swept away and never write.

I think someone up-thread mentioned Laini Taylor. Strange the Dreamer? I loved those too. Her writing is stunning.

I have a playlist for my novel I am writing. I listen to it to capture the mood and lyrics act as my muse. I adore them.

I always thought My Deamons by Starset applied to Fitz and Nighteyes. Now I get this vision of Fitz clutching a bottle of grog and singing Empty by Letdown into the night. I think the lyrics are apt.

Robin Hobb is one of my favourite authors! I've seen her books pop a few times over the last few days. Must be my sign that it's time for a reread. It's amazing to me that she wrote 5 trilogies which work so well as stand alone series but make such a very satisfying overall arc.

Teleporno · 30/06/2023 18:52

I've started the Golden Fool too. Enjoying it more than Fool's Errand.

LuciferRising · 30/06/2023 19:16

I'm on Fool's Fate now.

I have been curious about these books but feel a bit reluctant to read a series without Fitz and the Fool.

AdamRyan · 01/07/2023 09:45

Mad ship are amazing teleporno and you will find enough links to Fitz and the Fool to keep you happy 🤐

escapingthecity · 01/07/2023 10:00

I didn't love the ones which focused on the Fool as much as the Fitz and Liveship books. The final book that brought it all together made me weep buckets. I miss them!

I love the Liveship Traders. Favourite trilogy so far.

I like the Liveship stuff, but have to admit I always skip the ‘tangle’ stuff. It bores me rigid.

LuciferRising · 23/07/2023 10:13

Finished the Tawney Man triology. Enjoyed it.

Have downloaded the first Dragon one but am going to do a few short books before I start those.

I'm in the middle of the Golden Fool. I cried when Thick told Fitz about the bullies breaking his whistle.

Honnomushi · 23/07/2023 17:32

The tangle in Liveships is a bit dull but otherwise it's an amazing series. I particularly love Malta's development. The Rain Wilds are my least favourite but weirdly have my favourite character in Alise.

LuciferRising · 24/07/2023 05:58

Does Rain Wilds allude to Fitz etc at all?

Just downloaded the 5th From Blood and Ash as released recently but have been disappointed in these - only reading because I liked the first. I don't like the obsession with sex. Will then pick-up Robin Hobb again.

OP posts:
Honnomushi · 26/07/2023 21:57

Rain Wilds has more connections to Liveships than Fitz. Although I think there are some references. It also provides details which fill in the background for the last trilogy, which is mainly Fits centred.

I loved the first Blood & Ash books too but the quality is definitely declining. A series which definitely doesn't need six books, let alone a prequel series!

TheSecretDoor · 13/08/2023 17:14

@LuciferRising The Rain Wild Chronicles starting with Dragon Keeper delves into the whole Rain Wild way of life and ties in with the liveships trading world. They are fantastic books, brilliant characters too. Hard to say too much as people might not have read them and I definitely do not want to spoil anything.

Re Tawney Man, in the last dance of dances breaks me every time I read it. I hope you get as much joy from Dragon Keeper as you did the others.

Marmite27 · 11/10/2023 16:04

I have just finished the final book.

It’s an epic tale, skilfully woven of a motley crew on an adventure.

But even still, nothing rhymes with wolf!

Teleporno · 15/10/2023 11:39

@Marmite27 have you read the Liveships and Rain Wilds? I'm on Fool's Quest and have only read the books where both Fitz and the Fool feature.
