Horror short story collections

Would anyone be able to recommend some good horror short story collections?

I'm a big fan of Shirley Jackson, Thomas Ligotti and Robert Aickman in particular, but I don't mind a bit of Stephen King either.

Obviously, I've read all of their collections, so I'm on the lookout for something new. Thanks in advance.

'Nocturnes' by John Connolly?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 23/02/2023 13:28

I recently finished The Haunting Season which is short stories by various authors. They're not particularly scary but quite enjoyable

Dead Relatives, Lucie McKnight Hardy
Anything by Simon Kurt Unsworth.
Black Shuck Press do themed anthologies (only one I couldn’t get into was The Hyde Hotel).
Steve Duffy (Tragic Life Stories etc)
A Sliver Of Darkness by CJ Tudor.
You can often pick up the Mammoth Book Of Best New Horror older editions quite cheaply. There was also an annual series called Best New Horror ed by Steve Jones.
Early Ramsey Campbell short stories are delightfully unsettling.

Neil Gaiman! They are not horror exactly, but some are quite disturbing.

Fragile Things
Trigger Warning
Smoke and Mirrors

The Dark Descent
Ed by.David D Hartwell.

An anthology rather than a collection but packed with big names and quality writing.

Things we Say in the Dark by Kirsty Logan.
Salt Slow by Julia Armfield.
Things we Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enriquez.

Have you read any Richard Matheson? He's got a few collections, and wrote some of the original Twilight Zones I think.

There was a whole series of Pan paperbacks of horror story anthologies, edited by someone called Herbert van Thal (or something equally gothic).

Obviously out of print now, but second hand copies must be available.
