Audible - what to listen to after Karen Pirie and Robert Galbraith?!

I have a few hours left of my last Karen Pirie novel (though I see a new one is set for release in Oct 2023!)

I don't like the Carol Jordan/Tony ? series as I find the crimes too gruesome and I don't like the relationship between C&T. I did like the stand alone Val McDeirmid about the village tucked away in the valley where the girl had disappeared 25 years previously (A place of execution?)

I have read and am now listening to Robert Galbraith. Luckily for me I have 2 left to listen to but I'd like to space them out to make them last longer!

I have also really enjoyed Anthony Horowitz's Daniel Hawthethorne series and the Magpie/ Moonflower Murders 1&2.

I would love a strong detective series where the crimes are not gratuitous and the relationships between the detective and other characters are well developed (eg Karen Pirie and Jason, Phil, River etc, Anthony Horowitz and Daniel Hawthorne and obviously Robin and Strike!)

What about 1979 & 1989 by Val McD

Or Ian Rankin Rebus novels

Or Stuart MacBride (gruesome!)

Or Lisa Jewell thrillers?

Try LJ Ross, The DC Ryan mysteries.
I stumbled across them and am now on book 7, looks like there's 20 in total 😳

I feel a little bereft after each Robert Galbraith is finished so feel your pain! I've also enjoyed Karen Pirie so glad theres a new one due soon, I'm not a massive fan of Val Mcdiarmid but she is a bit hit or miss for me.

Sadly for me I have read all the Maeve Kerrigans and am impatiently awaiting the next instalment

I tried 1979 but couldn't get into it. Might give it another go.
I used to love Lisa Jewell but I think she took a very dark turn with the one about the kidnapped girl kept in the basement! I must put her earlier ones on my list and I'll add Rebus too.
Thank you 😊

I will try these. I read one or two on my kindle, I think they made me uneasy for some reason - was his girlfriend at risk?!
I'll revisit them , thank you ☺️

Jane Casey's Maeve Kerrigan series

But I should say thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for and would love if I hadn't read them all (more than once!)

It's actually out in March so not long to wait! As you've read these I second the Rebus recommendations, though they can be a bit darker! I also like Michael Connelly's Bosch series. And Elly Griffiths which is a bit lighter. You could try Ann Cleeves also. Hope you find more that you love x

MW Craven Washington Poe series OP.

I love all the ones you have mentioned and also loved these.

jazzybelle · 28/01/2023 23:01

Robert Brynza - he has two different series of detective/police novels.

jazzybelle · 28/01/2023 23:17

Sorry that's Robert Bryndza - The Erica Foster series and The Kate Marshall series.

Greg Keen has written three good mysteries set in Soho.

Nicci French - The Frieda Klein series. Also see other books by same author.

Angela Marsons - The Kim Stone series.

I have no idea if all of these are available as audiobooks but I've listed quite a few as there may be others here who might like to read them.
