I have always wondered how that period of transition looked from ancient Rome hating Christians to Rome become the centre of Christianity. What great books (historical fiction) or films would you recommend that covers this period of transition?

I have no idea but I agree that it's a fascinating period so I'm following!

I'm intrigued by the idea. I wonder what Helena by Evelyn Waugh is like? I've never even heard of it and it sounds like it's one of those author passion projects that land with a dull thud, but it's the right period. I might give it a go.

That's a great suggestion, I might have to order Helena. Weird and interesting that there doesn't seem to be many novels covering this fascinating era.

But there is a great book placed in the 9th century: Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk.
