Crime novels general preference questions

Do you like them from the criminal or
'Detective' perspective?

Do you like to know who did it from the beginning? Or find out in the end?

Are you happy for one off's of like a series?

Do you prefer police or private detective or legal or other?

I am only asking as I am nosy I am not writing an article or anything

Modern or old?

As for my own choices I prefer series other than that I can't decide

Also feel free to ask your own

I prefer it from the detectives perspective, and prefer to find out the culprit at the end (if you know at the beginning you don’t need to read the book!).

I like one-offs generally, or if it is a series, I like the book to be stand alone also. Read a book recently (not crime novel), where all the way through, they hinted at a mysterious, rich older gentleman who had taken the main person to an orphanage, and you presumed you were going to find out who he his. Nope, that was going to be in the next book.

I don’t mind whether it’s police, detective, private detective or an amateur sleuth.

Thinking about it, I’ve only read modern crime novels, apart from Agatha Christie.
