Is it any good ? I can see it’s 2 months free (or I’m seeing some ads about it)
can I get as many kindle books I want and then cancel the subscription? Or is it just a few books to choose from but not all kindle options?

if I cancel can I still read? Thanks

It's a bit like you pay £7.99 a month to rent up to 10 books at a time, although it might be up to 20 now. I'm assuming if you cancel you don't get to keep the books on your kindle but I've never cancelled. I find it really worthwhile as I read about 3 books per week. Not all books are on it though so you still might have to buy some books.

Go on your local library website and look at how to borrow e-books for free.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 18/01/2023 23:08

It’s got a lot of books but not all books. You can borrow about 20 at a time at the moment, but they get returned if you cancel. I like it, but I’m a huge fan of trash romance so i can indulge without people seeing what I’m reading, and also a lot is reeeeally crap, so I can read 10 pages and return it without being pissed off that I’ve just bought a whole book I won’t read.

MonsoonMadness · 18/01/2023 23:14

I’ve had a free trial but couldn’t find one book that was free that I unwanted to read.

MonsoonMadness · 18/01/2023 23:16

Wanted

Buttalapasta · 19/01/2023 10:16

I had a freectrial but there were hardly any books I wanted to read.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2023 10:21

I find it worth it as I read loads.

you can also borrow some magazines which is useful.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/01/2023 10:29

The books can be a bit naff on there. I like a lot of thrillers so can usually find something but they only take a couple of days to read. DH likes sci fi and fantasy and says there's nothing there for him. I've only ever had it through a free trial and when you try to cancel they offer three months for £7.99 so I've done that before. I did read all the Harry Potter books on it though

PuttingDownRoots · 19/01/2023 10:30

They are borrowed rather than bought so you lose them when you cancel.

It depends on what you like... the mystery/crime/thriller selection is quite good.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/01/2023 10:37

Bear in mind that the books on there are mostly very cheap, so its only worth it if you read at least a book a week, possibly more.

Like others, I couldn't find much to read on there when I've had free trials. There were bits, but not enough to be worth paying for for more than the odd month.

I just track the prices and keep an eye on the offers and buy the books I want when they're 99 p. I probably don't even spend £7.99 a month on average but have a virtual TBR pile in the hundreds. So many that I don't allow myself to buy books any more unless they're 99 p and something I really want.

DelilahBucket · 19/01/2023 10:45

I use it all the time and get my monies worth. I have loads of magazines too, particularly cooking ones, which don't seem to count towards your rentals, which is good because I go back to them for recipes. You can't read them after cancelling.
Try the trial, if you feel like you are getting £7.99 a month worth then keep it.

ChessieFL · 19/01/2023 10:46

I’ve never paid full price for KU - I just take up the free trials/cheap offers, read what I want, then cancel again. There’s not enough decent stuff on there to make it worth me paying for it in full. It depends what you like reading though - if you read lots of crime/thrillers then you might get your money’s worth.

GotAnyGrapez · 19/01/2023 10:51

I got 3 free months with buying a kindle and then 2 months for £2.99 (always look for the deals).

It's well worth it, there's loads of books including series of books on it, I use it every day but I do read a lot.

EasterIssland · 19/01/2023 17:36

Thanks all. I won’t be joining then as it’s as what I thought and the books I want most likely won’t be there

Another one that couldn't find anything I wanted to read on it.

Pemba · 22/01/2023 09:41

It depends on what you like to read. You could have the free trial and see what you think? Most books you'd have heard of are not on there though, although there are a few well-known ones.

I have had a free trial /heavily discounted subscription about 4 times over the years, but it ends up getting annoying. Because I end up reading 'B' grade books to get the value of it, and so not having time to read the books I'd really prefer to be reading. If you like a lot of thrillers and romances and aren't too bothered about literary quality then you might like Kindle Unlimited. They also have old classics on there, eg Jane Austen, but this is a con as most classics out of copyright are available free to keep anyway, or they were last time I looked.

So I've decided not to subscribe again and ignore offers. If it was a lot cheaper, say £3 a month, I might continue subscribing, but at £7.99 it is not worth it to me. I think they should include it in the cost of Prime! Did you know about Prime Reading which is included? There's quite a lot to read on there, if you have Prime, for free.

Yes all books are loaned and disappear when you cancel.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 23/01/2023 15:35

To me it depends on what u read. I do mostly horror and thriller police etc. so there is tons on there. Also I have low standards so that helps 😂
