Which books have you bought, to give as presents, and why that book?

The Ocean at the end of the Lane, after I heard an author interview. Also started reading it myself, enjoying it so far.

I have bought a Wow Said the Owl board book for my baby, as elder sibling's copy was loved to death. It is a beautiful and engaging introduction to colours.

And The Last Days of Night for my Mum. A fictional account of the feud between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse over the future of electrical power. I don't remember the details, but it was a fun/light read. But something I can be sure she won't have already read.

I bought my sister Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield. For my brother, I bought The Wool Trilogy by Hugh Howey. I enjoyed both immensely and am hoping that they’ll enjoy them as much as I did.

I gave my mum Still Life as I'd enjoyed it so much.

I received some lovely clothbound Penguin Classics.

I also received Stanley Tucci's Taste (now finished, a lovely read), latest Kate Atkinson, and a William Boyd I've not read.
