Looking for a big fantasy series a bit like the Vorkosigan series

I love Lois McMaster Bujold but have just finished reread all her novels and I'm looking for something new to read. I would like a long series that will take me a long time to read. I tried Elizabeth Moon's Vatta series which was okay but the characters are boring - I think what I like about LMB is that all her characters are so interesting. I also like Pullman's His Dark Materials series.

Any suggestions? Thank you!

Robin Hobb Realm of the Elderlings is amazing. It's 5 trilogies which are all set in the same realm. They are stand alone trilogies which are all interconnected. The writing is excellent and the characters are very well written. First book is Assassin's Apprentice.

Robert Jordan wheel of time?

Thank you both. I've downloaded a sample of the Assassin's Apprentice and I'm enjoying that. I'll move onto Wheel of Time when I've finished Robin Hobb - these will keep me out of trouble for a little while!
