So I binged listened to the entire Chronicles of st Mary’s last year. Up to date on them all.

Just finished listening to the new time police book.

I always vowed that St Mary’s would be my all time favourite. But I feel the time police is over taking them !

Other Jodi Taylor fans what do u think. Do u have a fav or love them both. I think it is the way the characters interact? Not sure.

I like both. The latest Time Police one is really fun!

I listened to a few St Mary's and then read the first Time Police book, not realising there were major spoilers! I need to go back and listen to them all from the start.

Iknownothing · 21/10/2022 21:05

As much as I love St Mary’s I feel that the last few books have strayed away a little. I loved all their historical excursions as I’d learn something a little about where & when they went but they seem to be less of that. Will still read them all though!
I like the time police but alongside St Mary’s

TourmalineGiraffe · 21/10/2022 21:06

Love the St Mary's books, but agree the last couple weren't quite as enjoyable.
Don't love the Time Police but do read them

I love them both, the latest Time Police book is great. I think St Mary's is still my favourite but it's a close run thing. I love all of Jodi Taylor's other books as well, and I like the fact that she churns out a couple of books a year.

I do like the fact that Max was written from the Time Police point of view this time, and she does come across as a bit of an arse (still funny though).

I've read all of the St Mary's books and love them. I've only read the first of the Time Police, must see about reading the rest of them.

My friends and I were going to an afternoon tea with Jodi Taylor and we were so excited, then COVID hit and it got cancelled 😞 we keep hoping that she reschedules it 🤞

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 22/10/2022 06:59

@Linnet oh my gosh. I’m so sorry I would have been devastated as well!!!

I was so excited when I stumbled on the fact that she does afternoon tea fan meets. She really is a phenomenal woman! And such a prolific writer.

I do love the St Mary’s books best but enjoy the Time Police one. I’m currently reading the latest and I can’t help but notice that it really takes off when Max enters the scene. There’s something about her irreverence and feistiness contrasting with the Time Police rigid rules (and brutality. Hit first, ask questions later). I like seeing Max through their eyes

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 23/10/2022 19:43

Hard to decide! St Mary’s feels more immersive because there is more of them and we have more characters to love. But The Time Police gives a new perspective.

Agree with PP that the last few St Mary’s have a different feel to them, some of Max’s behaviour feels very out of character and doesn’t feel like she has made any progress.

Time Police

I'm not keen on the lack of St Marys in the recent St Mary's.

TerrifiedandWorried · 24/10/2022 19:25

Thanks to merely glancing at this thread I have been sucked into this world. I am eternally grateful. Enjoying them so much!

Faircastle · 24/10/2022 19:36

I prefer St Mary's, both for the setting and the characters. It slightly lost its way after the [spoiler] plotline * , but has managed to regain my interest again in the last couple of books.
But the Time Police is fun too.
Although it's not set in the same universe, I also enjoyed the Elizabeth Cage series.

  • The whole alternative reality thing, where Max jumped the shark and America is weird.
Paranoidandroidmarvin · 26/10/2022 20:54

@TerrifiedandWorried oh I’m so glad. They really are amazing worlds to get into. Make sure when u have done this world u look into the Elizabeth cage books. Just as good.

I like them both, it’s hard to decide which I like best. I enjoyed the Elizabeth Cage books too, but I prefer the St Mary’s / Time Police universe.

But as for this -

I do like the fact that Max was written from the Time Police point of view this time, and she does come across as a bit of an arse (still funny though).

I do think that Max come across as a bit of an arse in most of the books. I know the St Mary’s ones are from Max’s POV, so we get more of an insight into why she’s behaving the way she does, but still. She’s a bit of an arse a lot of the time, even if she is fun to read about.
