OK. I am trying to listen to the audiobook, and i just can't handle the social media bits. Can someone who has finished it just quickly summarise anything we actually need to know from those bits?

How far through are you - there’s loads of it, way to much to remember and summarise!

ElizabethBest · 08/09/2022 14:40

@Klank chapter 7! I really can't stand it, it's so annoying. If I skip these bits, will I still get the gist of what's going on?

Erm, you find some stuff out before Strike and Robin do, but I guess you’ll still get most stuff explained eventually. You’d be missing a lot of the context/background though.

Joshanddonna · 09/09/2022 06:21

Persevere you get accustomed to them. Well I did. I’ve just finished it and I loved it.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 09/09/2022 06:23

They are REALLY hard to listen to on the audiobook! You do need to persevere though for plot context.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 09/09/2022 12:52

I think you’re in the worst bit atm. I was finding it hard but I’ve got used to it now.

ElizabethBest · 09/09/2022 15:48

I skipped chapters 5 and 7 but will stick it out going forward. Have I missed anything essential?

I’m on chapter 43 so not sure. Also. All those characters blurred into one person for me, although now I can identify a couple.

Summer15coming · 09/09/2022 16:55

I've listened to all of the Strike series on audible rather than reading the books. This one is definitely the least suitable for listening! The in-game chat is necessary; you will miss quite a bit if you don't listen to it. I really wish I had it on paper though, so I could easily flick back to see who said what!

Klank · 09/09/2022 18:18

I bought it in hardback and I’m very glad I did. I can’t imagine how they made all the simultaneous chats work!

CormoranStrike · 09/09/2022 18:57

That was my favourite book of the series so far

ElizabethBest · 11/09/2022 19:16

Ok I’m at chapter 32 - just met Katya and family, and I have a theory but I think it’s perhaps a bit too mad….

I’m on chapter 63.

Very exciting is that Robin has just moved to exactly where I live and went to my local chop shop.

ElizabethBest · 14/09/2022 19:37

Oooh I was RIGHT!!!!

I bought it in Hardback as pre ordered it and couldnt wait for the paperback and its so big and heavy!! Am finding it so difficult to read lying in bed..Its really spoiling my enjoyment of it....
Anyone else finding this a problem?

FloorCushion · 09/10/2022 21:42

I listened to it, then immediately went out and bought the hardback. Getting so much more from it doing it this way, you can appreciate the simultaneous chats and the Twitter sections are a hundred times easier to read.
I love all the other audio Strike books but this was a pita to listen to. I felt sorry for the narrator, must have been awful to read out all this @s and Twitter handles.

12roundsofwhitelowfatspread · 09/10/2022 21:48

I read it on kindle and ended up skipping all the “chat” sections because the type was tiny and impossible to enlarge. Still enjoyed the book but couldn’t help feeling I didn’t get my money’s worth!
