Hi can anyone recommend books set in the 1700s/1800s? I've read several in the last few years, authors include:

Sarah Perry
Jane Harris
Stacey Halls
Georgette Heyer

I've also read Mermaid and Mrs Hancock, Longbourn and Wakenhyrst. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!

I couldn't get into the Essex Serpent - maybe I'll give it another go.
Absolutely loved Once Upon a River. I've not tried her other books.

Also recommend Bone China by Laura Purcell (or any of her books)

I think it's not about story as much as atmosphere and character, and particularly the relationship between Cora and Will and their conversations.

yes, but with such a promising opening chapter, it was so disappointing.

I'm going to try Once Upon a River.
I don't remember how The Essex Serpent starts; I just remember I loved it.
