Anyone read this? It’s my book club ‘summer reading’ book, but I can’t wait till September to discuss it!

maybe it’s because I’m getting on a bit but I’m finding it hard to see past the child sexual abuse (14/15 year old girl left to go out and party / be a groupie), and parental indifference. And anything goes, as long as it’s ‘cool’ 🙄. I don’t actually care how good the band ended up being. And it totally glamorises drug addiction.

Definitely the Hollywood / Mills and Boon version of the rock ‘n’ roll story.

It's a boring and pretentious book.

Oooo I loved it! And even the the partying etc at a young age is ridiculous to us now when this was set I'm not sure I would have been to the general population / my understanding of the characters. I've read a few of the authors other things and just finished Malibu rising and loved that too.

I just finished this today! I really enjoyed it as well. I loved the characters and although the underage drinking/drug taking/partying is obviously not good, I think it's accurately depicting how it was at the time...and it's easy to understand how they got so hooked on that lifestyle.

I also recently read The seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which I loved too and will be purchasing Malibu Rising next week!

We’ve just read this at my book club. I disliked it but seemed to be in the minority. The gimmick of using dialogue rather than normal prose wore thin very quickly for me, and I hated the characters so much that I couldn’t care less if they all wanted to drink themselves to death. Having said that, I did keep reading to the end to find out what happened. Perhaps because I’ve no interest in music or drugs this wasn’t the book for me!

I've just finished Malibu Rising & loved it. Haven't read the other 2 yet though so can't compare.

Literally just read this today! I liked it, I found the format surprisingly easy to read. I appreciated that Billy didn’t actually cheat in the end, that would have been an easy way to go.
also read Malibu rising which I enjoyed, but the seven husbands was my favourite of the three. I love a book that makes me cry!

I read that a month or so ago. Tbh I found it a bit of an odd one- there wasn't much of a climactic event in the book and it sort of ambled along but I still felt really compelled to read it. It was, overall, enjoyable and a fresh way of writing (not your usual novel style).

I realy enjoyed it, it's very much true to what happened at that time, it would be wrong to pretend it was different

I haven't read Malibu Rising (going to look it up), very much enjoyed the Seven Husband too
