I posted a while ago, as I was finding it difficult to get into, but I've just finished it, and would thoroughly recommend it. I don't like her style, but she's such an intelligent writer - so many interesting ideas.
I must now try We Need to Talk about Kevin.

I couldn't read anything for ages after WNTTAK, everything paled in comparison.

I loved SWSOSWG - I thought it was very clever and raised some interesting ideas. Also thought WNTTAK was fantastic although not an easy read.

ArabeI · 02/04/2022 15:17

I hadn't heard of this one, so might give it a try.
Kevin was so thought provoking, but agree not an easy read at all.

Good to hear you'd recommend it, must check it out. I thought WNTTAK was excellent, so well written and also enjoyed So Much For That, brilliant dry humour and really sad & serious too.

Just to say this is now 99p on Kindle! It is not a Daily Deal offer, but I'm not sure how long it will last.

Kicking myself because I paid £4.99 for it last October, and I haven't got round to reading it yet!

Brilliant Pemba thanks for the heads up🤗

I loved Should We Stay or Should We Go - it was such an interesting idea to see how things could possibly pan out. And very funny at times! I think that it's one of my favourite Shriver novels, after Big Brother and We Need to Talk About Kevin. She did a great webchat on mumsnet once.

ArabeI · 03/04/2022 18:59

Thanks @Pemba I've just bought it.

I love Lionel Shriver’s writing and have read most of her books. All of them are seriously thought provoking. I enjoyed SWSOSWG and last week finished The Mandibles - also a great offering from her.

WhistlersandJugglers · 07/04/2022 00:45

I really liked the idea but found it quite repetitive by the end. It has some very witty lines, as you'd expect from her. I thought the diverging stories worked much better in The Post-Birthday World.
I loved The Mandibles, Kevin and Big Brother. I like the way her characters are never too likable but always relatable.

katycantrip · 08/04/2022 15:10

I found it very funny in parts - I particularly liked the cameo appearance of the main protagonist from her previous book, as well as the appearance of the author herself ("that Shriver woman"). I agree it got a bit repetitive towards the end.

I loved it. Funny too. I've been saying "well that won't get the babby a frock and pinny" since I've read it.
