So who’s read this by now?

I was eagerly awaiting this after finishing house of earth and blood and my god what a twist.

I honestly thought Day would be Celestina and was surprised it wasn’t.

And the end!!! I can’t believe it’s a crossover to court of thorns and roses.

I hope it isn’t another year before the next book

No one else reading this?

I just finished it last night, I totally thought it was going to be Celestina too! I did spend a lot of time confused between the Harpy and the Hind, I think the names were just too similar and there wasn't much to make clear who was who there.

The crossover with ACOTAR at the end was a complete surprise! I liked the idea of Amren being absolutely staggered though and wondered if there was going to be an answer as to what Amren is and where she came from at some stage.

Also does Bryce ever actually go to work? I assumed where she worked would be part of the plot at some stage, but aside from shagging Hunt in the stacks it seemed pointless. One of the things I liked about her in the first book was seeming like a more realistic character with a job, not a destiny like most of Maas's other heroines.

The only thing I can't be doing with in Maas's writing is the lengthy sex scenes. They add nothing to the plot and are a bit tedious, I tend to skip them!

I tend to skip them too tbh and yes this could give us vital information on Amren’s background.

We already know some, so this could be interesting.

And yes Bryce really doesn’t seem to work does she? Grin

Someone else has pointed out on a different forum that the book of breathing’s and the walking dead book both feature in Jesiba’s library.

What a cool way to tie both books into this one

Oh that's clever! I'd like to know more about Jesiba generally, I think she's a really interesting character.

Soubriquet · 26/02/2022 21:10

Same. Hopefully in the next book we find out why she defected from her house

I’m listening to this on audible. I find the sex stuff really cringeworthy (so much talk of wanking in showers 🙄).

Ah, that's what the weird ending was about. I haven't read the other series, and the ending just didn't work for me. Might go read them while we wait for book 3.

Enjoyed this, like that we're starting to see more parallel storylines (Ruhn, Tharion, Ithan etc). Kind of like SLM did in Throne of Glass. ACOTAR crossover is brilliant, i'm tempted to go back and read those again and see where there were hints.

The one thing I'm not so into is the whole action being driven by what Danika was or wasn't doing

Yes! Go read them. They are well worth the read.

I’ve been re-reading the first and I am seeing all the signs towards ACOTAR and Throne Of Glass in it that I never picked up before.

Yes, it does seem to be centred around what Danika did, or didn’t do, but I wonder if it will end up trying to with what the King of Hybern is doing.
