I came across it while downloading Jennings and Darbishire (nostalgia attack).

I suppose there's some kind of copyright issue, but I wonder how those names were chosen!

Quick skim: other names Atkins, Morrison et Briggs - M. Wilkinson at least keeps his name.

Well, sort of - Mr Wilkins of course!

So they're French translations of the Jennings books? I used to love Jennings.

Curious choice of names. If they're legitimate translations there wouldn't have been a copyright issue.

I also love Jennings and read them to DD when she was small. Some bits had us both crying with laughter.

The name change is interesting and in fact one of my favourite funny bits wouldn't work with those names.

As far as I can remember some visiting eminent old boy has been locked in the library by mistake and Darbishire has gone off with the key.

Other boys calling to the OB through the key hole assure him all wil be well as someone has gone to get the key from Darbishire. Whereupon OB exclaims "Derbyshire? That's 200 miles away. He won't be back until Tuesday" (or similar)
