Did Mary Renault write a book about Cassandra?

I remember reading a story from Cassandra's (Kassandra's?) POV, possibly her version of the Iliad. It was gruesome in places, with her being raped, so not a children's or YA book, I think. IIRC she had a little girl she called Honey (illegitimate or adopted).

Sounds familiar? What was it called?

I think this is Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Firebrand.

She's a bit questionable these days.

Yes, the firebrand by Marion zimmer Bradley. I enjoyed it, I was about 18 though. It was nearly 30 years ago! Why is she questionable nowadays?

ladygindiva · 05/01/2022 19:21

I just googled. Nasty. Won't be rebuying that book.

Yes, that's the book! I don't recognise the name, but I did recognise one of the cover images when I googled it.

But what's 'questionable' about MZB or her books?

Christa Wolf wrote a book called Cassandra, telling the story of the Trojan War from her perspective.,

Her husband was a child abuser, she knew about it and condoned it, and her daughter accused her too a few years ago. Nasty stuff.
