I’ve just read Invisible Girl and The Night She Disappeared, both brilliant!

Lisa Jewell is one of my favourite authors at the moment. I am currently reading the making of us.

I can't wait for the family upstairs 2 this year.

zafferana · 01/01/2022 13:19

I enjoyed The Girls and The Family Upstairs, which are the only two I've read of hers. She's an easy author to read.

ILoveHuskies · 01/01/2022 13:20

Oh I bloody love Lisa Jewell but I was a bit disappointed with her latest

Tbh I much prefer her earlier chick lit type stuff. I'm currently re reading "Vince and joy" it's just magical 😍😍
I also love 31 dream street

ChessieFL · 01/01/2022 15:29

Lisa Jewell’s novels come in two types. Her earlier stuff is chicklit, then she moved to psychological thrillers. You need to make sure you know which type you’re picking up otherwise you might be a bit confused/disappointed if you’re expecting g a thriller and get chicklit or vice versa.

I've just started The Family Upstairs on Audible today yo accompany my New Year walking, I've just taken the dog out again to listen to a bit more of it!

normanthegonk · 01/01/2022 18:31

I have read every book of hers since her first Ralph's party...all very readable

PizzasPlease · 01/01/2022 18:32

Currently reading The House We Grew Up In.
I'm enjoying it.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 01/01/2022 19:25

The family Upstairs is amazing! And just finished the girl who disappeared which was great too. Wasn't fussed on The Girls. I Found You was ok. Got 3 more for Xmas I'm excited to read!

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/01/2022 19:40

One plus one is my favourite

Viviennemary · 01/01/2022 20:23

Thanks for the recommendations. Great to discover a new mystery type author. I really liked Robert Goddard and read a lot of his books but they got a bit samey.

I love her old stuff. I can take it or leave it with psychological thrillers. I find that genre quite tedious.

MissBattleaxe · 17/01/2022 19:08

@Luredbyapomegranate I haven't head of one plus one. How have I missed it? Is it known by another title?

Someaddedsugar · 17/01/2022 19:14

@Viviennemary have you given Adele Parks a try? Her more recent books rather than her older books (another author who moved from chick-lit to thrillers).

BrambleRoses · 17/01/2022 19:15

Isn’t One Plus One JoJo Moyes?

My favourite Lisa Jewell are The House We Grew Up In and Then She Was Gone. I got the feeling the most recent title had the ending she’d wanted for Then She Was Gone.

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 18/01/2022 17:37

Another one for The House We Grew Up In, that was a turning point for me in how I viewed her books, before I thought of them as rather light and frothy. Of late I think she has veered into psychological/crime and her books really draw me in, in particular The Family Upstairs and her last The Night She Disappeared.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 18/01/2022 17:53

Ooh love a bit of Lisa Jewell. But I think I've read them all. Particularly like her psychological thrill but still a soft spot for the older stuff too.
I'm currently making my way through another author who I love , Kerry Fisher. (All Narrated by Emma sturgeon hussey and she's good at it Smile)
Thoroughly recommend if you like family dramas/sagas which are easy to listen to but not 'chick lit romance'
I'm sure she reads Mumsnet! One scene where the DM allows her DGC to open presents on Xmas day to "give the parents a lie in" made me think she'd got it straight off AIBU Grin(think it was The mother I could have been)
Other peoples marriages is a brilliant read.
Sorry I've really gone on off a tangent but if you like LJ you'll probably like KF too.

Hortensia16 · 18/01/2022 18:09

I preferred her earlier books. I loved Ralph's Party. I didn't enjoy the Girl who Disappeared very much.

Me neither.

I love Ralph's party and all the earlier stuff. I am re reading 31 dream street at the moment due to this thread 😅

SinisterBumFacedCat · 21/01/2022 00:26

I really enjoyed Watching You. My feelings about one of the main characters went from one extreme, to another and then flip flopped to something completely different. I didn’t really enjoy her chick lit books and wrote her off for ages.
