Trying to track down childhood book

Hoping the collective power of Mumsnet can help me!

I'm due my first baby in March and trying to track down a favourite book from my own childhood - so far without success.

I was born 1985 and the book was a picture book for babies and toddlers so I probably had it read to me between 85-87.

Between my parents and I we can remember the following details about the book:-

  • The premise was a little boy in a boat spotting various things on the river/pond.
  • The things he spotted included a duck and a swan.
  • We always called the duck "Dandy Duck" and the swan "John the Swan" HOWEVER none of us are clear whether these names were used in the book or whether my parents made up those names.
  • My mum thinks it was a "board book" type format.
  • We can't remember what it was called - we always called it Dandy Duck but think this may have just been made up by us. I have searched online and there is an Australian children's book from the 50s called Dandy Duck however it is not the same book.

I realise this is probably a very long shot but can anyone out there help me remember the name of this book and track it down? Smile
