Help me find this children’s bible from the eighties

DS aged 11 is enjoying RE at school and we’ve been discussing bible stories, particularly the creation myths at the beginning. We aren’t religious so his knowledge of the bible is scant. He is very interested in it all.
I was taken to church as a child, was bought a bible and read it again and again, so my knowledge of the bible is good.
I want to get hold of a copy of this bible I had as a kid as they just don’t make them like that any more. They’re all rated U these days, whereas mine was more of a 12 certificate! I’ve looked on eBay but I can’t find it because I can’t remember the publisher.
It was:
Owned and read by me in the eighties
A4 sized and thickish
Had some of the more obscure Old Testament stories, eg. Shadrach, Mesach and Abednego in the fire (great illustration!)
Illustrated on every page - some almost full double-paged illustrations, eg the flood.
Illustrations highly detailed and realistic
Here’s the main clue - the illustrations were graphic, and I mean pretty violent, horrific and memorable. It didn’t shy away from the nasty bits and that’s particularly why I loved it.
Can anyone help me? I reckon if you had it and took a photo of one of the illustrations I would probably remember it.

I had this one in the early 80s. Can't remember any of the stories you mention though.

Is it this one? www.etsy.com/uk/listing/903872007/book-of-bible-stories-childrens

Nuffaluff · 01/12/2021 19:34

Thanks so much for the replies - I didn’t think anyone would!
@AtomicBlondeRose no, not that one definitely. The colours were much darker and illustrations more realistic.
@Ldmk2 no, I don’t think so. Yours looks much nicer and less gruesome than mine.
Thanks both of you though. I’ve been obsessed with this book for the last three days. It’s driving me crazy!

I had this one! That's brought back memories.

I was born in 1977, so it was probably the mid to late eighties when I had it.

I expect it was this one:

Although it’s entirely illustrated.

Did it have picture of John the Baptist's head on a platter? I had a large book of bible stories, hardback with brown dust cover, also in the 80s.

If nobody has found it by morning, there's a 1980s book of bible stories in my son's bedroom which I can go and take a pic of (he's asleep already). I remember quite liking the more gory stories.

Yes. Oh yes. It definitely did. That’s what I’m saying, it was graphic.
It may well have been the one you’re thinking of @GlitchStitch

The one we had in the 80s had a red cover with The Picture Bible in embossed gold, and no artwork on the cover.

The artwork was excellent, very realistic and as you said, didn’t shy away from being graphic.

First published in full colour by David C. Cook. Edited by Iva Hoth and illustrated by Andre LeBlanc.

There’s a copy for sale on World of Books for just over £6.

Also copies for sale on eBay and on Amazon.

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule. No I don’t think so. The illustrations were more realistic.
@mynameiscalypso. Yes please please do!

Ah ok

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 01/12/2021 20:03

Well if you don’t find the one you’re looking for, I can highly recommend this one. I read it cover to cover many times as a child/young teen.

minipie · 01/12/2021 20:04

I had this one

banivani · 01/12/2021 20:05

Ebay is a good place to look, lots of the listings have photos of inside pages with illustrations

Driposaurus · 01/12/2021 20:08

Was it hardback with a light blue spine?

I had one with grizzly pictures. I doubt I’ve chucked it out but I can’t think where it is in the house.

karmakemmie · 01/12/2021 20:09

I had this one too! I used to love reading it and looking at the pictures.

Youhavesomethinginyourteeth · 01/12/2021 20:09

Was it The Lions Childrens Bible?

Nuffaluff · 01/12/2021 20:09

Thanks @HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule I’ve checked that out. It’s not it. That one looks great actually, but mine wasn’t like a comic strip style.
There would be a double-paged massive picture, dark and gloomy and horrible, almost (but not) like a photo of what the actual scene would have been like.
Whereas most bibles would have just shown the happy lovely Noah’s ark with all the lovely animals, mine just had the ark in the background with all the horror of God’s wrath in the foreground.

We also had this one
