Books similar to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

I'm looking for book recommendations for books similar to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. My 15 year old DS loved them and as they have got him back into reading I'm keen to encourage him!

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman

• Most of Terry Pratchett's back catalogue
• most Jasper Fforde books
• the Rivers of London series
• possibly Natasha Pulley's books, but they're a bit less humorous and a bit harder to follow.

And of course there were several sequels to Hitchhikers.

Dirk Gently, the other series by Douglas Adams.

Not a book, but I must recommend Gentlemen Broncos (and it is about books like hitchhiker's).

Stainless steel rat series by Harry Harrison.

This is brilliant, thank you! I haven't heard of most of these, so lots of new books to explore.

A recent one which I think is very similar in feel to HHGTG - Qualityland by Mark-Uwe Kling.

And Mark-Uwe Kling wrote the Känguruh-Chroniken (translated as The kangaroo chroicles)
