Books for a fan of Philip K Dick and Dune

Hi, I'd like to get my DH a few sci fi books for Christmas. It's not my genre at all so I'm clueless. He has read loads of Philip K Dick and recently the Dune series by Frank Herbert. Can you suggest anything else that he might like based on this? Thanks.

Fahrenheit 451?
The Foundation series? ( there is also now a TV show)
Asimov's I, Robot?

These are all "classic" sci fi. Newer sci fi: The Three Body Problem.

Try "The Expanse" it is also an amazing TV series (on Amazon Prime). The books to not spoil the experience of the TV show, nor the other way around.

Thanks, these look right up his street!

Hugh Howie - Wool Trilogy, and his standalone Sand.

Thanks, I'll look at those too.

I loved these...

Cradle series by Will Wight. First book is Unsouled and we are now up to Book 10

Maybe A Deepness In The Sky and A Fire Upon The Deep by Vernor Vinge

The Faded Sun trilogy by CJ Cherryh reminded me of Dune, and has some well-written alien characters and societies if he likes sociological SF.

My current favourite sci-fi authors are Becky Chambers and Adrian Tchaikovsky. Lots of people rate Ian M Banks although I struggled to get into them.

Oh wow, loads more recommendations, thanks to everyone who posted. I'll get him a wee selection.

Big fan of the Dune books and Philip K Dick here.

I would recommend:

  • Hyperion series by Dan Simmons
  • The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson
  • Dark Eden by Chris Beckett

Red Rising books are somewhat simpler but they have solid world building and could be interesting.

The Three-Body Problem and its sequels are outstanding, but they might be a bit too Hard SF for your DH.

Absolute NO to Asimov's Foundation and I, Robot. They are from the same era of SF as Dune but very different because they are relatively superficial and they do not have the intellectual, introspective quality that has made Dune a lasting phenomenon.

Same goes for Wool. It's more recent but it has huge plot holes, makes little sense, and does not have a mind-blowing, far-reaching, philosophical and intellectual side like Dune and Philip K Dick.

My Partner loved dune and has also loved some of the ones mentioned by the previous posters so they sound like good options ! I personally haven’t read them …

Maybe A Deepness In The Sky and A Fire Upon The Deep by Vernor Vinge And also the Hyperion series I know he really enjoyed
