Has anyone read this? What did you think of it?

I much preferred it to the first one, which I thought wasn’t that well written in the first half (too much going on) but improved as it went on.

This one is much better written. I like the plot line, the slight comic touches, the development of characters etc. Actually, the characterisation is one of the strongest features of both books.

After the first book, I wasn’t that bothered about reading the second book - I enjoyed it but wasn’t wowed by it. A friend lent me the second book. After reading it, I’m more inclined to read the next one.

I loved it - found the first one 'okay' but a bit convoluted. Too much going on, too many characters etc. The second is so better - you know the characters, it's a good story line. I really enjoyed it, and didn't want to finish it.

I’ve just bought this today and I am so excited to read it. I really enjoyed The Thursday Murder Club, so I am pleased that this is even better!

I loved it and felt that it made me able to read the first book again with more understanding of who everyone was and their character traits . It’s the sort of book which would appeal to a wide variety of people which is why I think it will sell so well especially before Christmas

I'm listening to it on Audible .I didn't want to buy it as I didn't enjoy the first one due to the number of characters and simply got bored with it.
I've quite enjoyed it so far although I need to go for small parts at a time.

I've just received this book as a gift but not read the first - shall I hold off for book 1 or does it work as a stand alone?

Loved it, just finished it the other day and don't know what to read next! Looking forward to the third book.

Sorry, definitely read the first book before this one.

I currently have covid, and have the chance to put a dent on my reading pile. I have been putting this one off as although I enjoyed the first one I found it a bit hard going. I really enjoyed this one, I found it so much easier to keep track of the plot, and knew the main characters already. I can't wait for the third instalment now.

If you like these books I would also recommend SJ Bennett's books featuring the Queen as a Detective. The first one is called The Windsor Knot.

Riverlee · 25/03/2022 19:26

Windsor knot is really good.

I'm the other way round and enjoyed the first one just ever so slightly more. Loved both though, just finished last night. I felt the characterisation was stronger in the first and thought if someone began with the second book, they wouldn't have much to go on about the gang of main characters and would be missing out.
