A few years ago I read a book on holiday and loved it. Then I returned home, forgot all about it and promptly forgot the title. So, bearing in mind it was a few years ago my description might be a bit inaccurate. Also, not much to go on either, sorry!
The story is set in India and is from the perspective of the lead female character. She is married and every week or so she attends a ladies group where they each put money into a pot and then every week a lady from the group gets the pot of money to spend as she pleases.
She talks affectionately about her husband throughout the book. Then one day she and a friend (or relative) are in a taxi and a man opens the door and threatens them with a knife but I think they manage to fight him off. After this she talks about how events like this remind her of why she loves her husband.
And my mind has gone blank about the rest of the book! But I really would love to find it and read it again. If anybody has any inkling about what this book might be called I would love to hear your thoughts. I have tried searching for it, but as my description is not so great it has been impossible.
