Audiobook recommendations if I loved A Single Thread but (spoilers for Miss Benson's Beetle)...

...hated the unnecessarily sad ending to Miss Benson's Beetle and also that the dog died!

I loved A Single Thread soo much, my favourite narrator too in Fenella Woolgar. I like books set around that period, I enjoyed I Capture The Castle, The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets, The Paying Guests, Life After Life, most Sarah Waters though I disliked the ending of The Little Stranger, Kate Atkinson but disliked One Good Turn so was put off rather. I thought The Girl On The Train and Eleanor Oliphant were unremarkable.

Audible titles cost one credit regardless of length so I try to choose longish books.

Recommendations please if you have similar tastes!

Also meant to add that I couldn't get on with The Essex Serpent at all, I don't like that style of writing!

I also loved A Single Thread, it looks like we have similar taste and I will try some of your recommendations. Have you read (listened to) either Dominion, set during Second War War or Winter in Madrid, set during the SpanishCivil War. Both by C J Sansom.
