DD struggles with her eyesight and concentration. She's said today that she wants to read 1984 but I don't want to put her off by buying a copy with tiny words on the page.

Does anyone know of a copy which might be clear enough fir her?

Could you get her a kindle? You can adjust font size on that

1984 George Orwell - Large Print Edition https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/4871872688/ref=cmswwrcppapiglccfabcRBQX6YPX8221HX7DF88G

Amazon has this but it's quite expensive

Clymene · 14/04/2021 19:27

You should be able to get a large print edition via your library

BunnyRuddington · 14/04/2021 20:35

Sorry, should have said, she's particularly said that she wants a book rather than read it on a kindle. No idea why as the kindle would he so much easier.

Thanks fir the replies Smile

You will find it hard to find a reasonably priced large print book

Thanks demented.
I don't think we actually need a large print edition, just one that clearly set out, almost like the dyslexia friendly editions iykwim?

Does your DD have a diagnosed eye problem or dyslexia, Bunny? If so, she might be able to access the [[https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/getting-support/help-for-children-and-families/living-independently/customeyes-books/
CustomEyes service]], which provides large print books to your specification at the same cost as the "normal" copies. You can choose the paper colour, text size, typeface, line spacing, etc. It's not the fastest turnaround ever, but we normally receive books about 10 days after ordering them.

@mackerella , what an amazing service.

mackerella · 19/04/2021 07:08

It certainly is, Footle! The only disadvantage is that the books can get pretty large, especially if they're highly magnified. DS's copy of The Witches runs into two telephone directory-sized volumes Grin.
