I thought Child A was excellent.

Labobo · 05/03/2021 08:57

My favourites ever are
Tell No One (Harlen Coben)
No Time to Say Goodbye (Linwood Barclay)
Sister (Rosamund Lupton)
Blacklands and Snap, both by Belinda Bauer.
Alys Always by Harriet Lane is beautifully written.

Follow You Home by Mark Edwards. It knocks spots off Gone Girl, which I found disappointing.
The Stillhouse Lake series by Rachel Caine - absolutely gripping.

InsideNumberNine · 05/03/2021 11:45

I read The Last Thing To Burn this week. Absolutely raced through it and didn't go to sleep til 11.22pm (!!!!) as I just had to finish it.

InsideNumberNine · 05/03/2021 11:45

I also really enjoyed Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce.

ZaZathecat · 05/03/2021 11:46

Backpack by Emily Barr. Her other books are also in the same vein.

Stealthynamechange · 05/03/2021 19:22

Behind her eyes from Sarah Pinborough. The series is on Netflix at the moment but I thought the book was so much better

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 06/03/2021 23:36

Linwood Barclay’s No Time for Goodbye is great - I second the recommendation.

Lisa Unger’s Beautiful Lies and its Sliver of Truth are twisty and unsettling thrillers.

TheWindOnTheMoon · 07/03/2021 07:03

Any novel by Nicci French - all the ones I've read so far have been good. Try Secret Smile, The Safe House, or The Lying Room.

Stealthynamechange · 10/03/2021 13:17

Thank you so much for all the recomendations :-)

I just finished The Push by Ashley Audrain. Really good, I devoured it in a couple of days.

Thirtyrock39 · 27/03/2021 10:11

I was just about to recommend the push' - was gripped and also read it in two days- so good I spent Friday night reading it instead of drinking wine in front of gogglebox as usual !

Downunderduchess · 27/03/2021 10:27

The Ex by Nicola Moriarty

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 27/03/2021 10:49

*LifeIn and Thirty I bought The Push after seeing Dawn Porter recommend it on insta and read it in a day and a half! Just devoured it.

Reminiscent of We Need to Talk About Kevin (albeit not as good) but a great read.

If anyone can recommend any similar books, I'd be very grateful!

Yellowfish2020 · 27/03/2021 13:43

Just downloaded the Push based on this thread and I'm already completely sucked in! Not much will be getting done this weekend :)

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 01/04/2021 08:31

I bought The Last Thing to Burn and Follow You Home off the back of this thread.

I read The Last Thing to Burn in one evening 😳 so it was definitely compelling and tense.....BUT I didn't love it. I found the first person narrative totally at odds with the lead character's background. It didn't ring true to me at all. I also struggled with descriptions of solely female subjects as written by a bloke. It didn't sound authentic.

I think this is exactly why I loved We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Push so much. They could only have been written by a woman.

Peppermintfluffysocks · 01/04/2021 08:34

Into the darkest corner - Elizabeth Haynes
Behind closed doors - B A Paris

endoflevelbaddy · 01/04/2021 08:51

I loved Good Me Bad Me by Ali Land when I read it a few years ago.

Chocolatefrenzy · 22/04/2021 19:53

Something in the water by Catherine Steadman, absolutely gripping! Definitely recommend

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 22/04/2021 19:57

Another vote for Child A. If you fancy listening rather than reading, the audiobook read by Holliday Granger is really good.

Paranoidandroidmarvin1350 · 24/04/2021 08:40

@RampantIvy thanks for the heads up on the still lake book. It was free on kindle unlimited and am really enjoying it.

Have added most of these to my list of books to be read. Especially the push.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 24/04/2021 09:44

New recommendation - Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton, about a school shooting. Am a teacher so quite target-audience but I think it would be hard not to enjoy. Totally gripping about radicalization and love.
