I used to enjoy these. But the stories are getting a bit ridiculous, always with the same people involved in every single one. It's a shame as I thought when she moved to Cambridge they'd improve a bit. And Ruth needs to leave Nelson alone!

Ah.! I still enjoy them.I’ve just read her newest and although it was a predictable chain of events I much enjoyed it.

Yes. I'm on the latest, bit it's getting a bit repetitive. How on earth does Cathbad get Ito everything!

Oh I love them, just finishing up #13 now. I'm more interested in the characters than the plot.

I love them and love catching up with the cast of characters, they feel like old friends!

Helenluvsrob · 15/02/2021 19:38

I’ve read the first 3 so far and love them, the familiarity of the characters is one of the things I like - comforting and relaxing to my reading brain 😊 Would those of you who also like the Ruth Galloway books have any other detective series to recommend? I also like Kate Ellis’s series.

Susan Hill's Simon Serailler novels are good, but they are darker than the Ruth G books. I loved Caroline Graham's early Inspector Barnaby series - unfortunately she only wrote about five or six - think she decided not to bother writing any more when they became such a hugely popular TV series!

I love Ruth. She is imperfect and flawed and very likeable for it. Plus I love that she is highly intelligent and unashamed. Surely Nelson is going to leave Michelle in the next book?

I enjoyed the first few, but when I got to the Dark Angel, that was the end for me - Ruth and Nelson carrying on like lovestruck teens, selfish and boring. So that was that.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/02/2021 22:42

Ruth should have left Nelson alone! It was a relic when she moved in with Frank as it was all getting a bit dull.

I'm looking forward to the newest (have it on order at the library) but i'm also hoping for some change ... this is always the problem with series, I like the familiarity but I also want there to be development
