It’s snowy and I’m setting up my bedroom to be cozy and bedding down for the evening... what should I read?

Seven Sisters is good, about an adopted daughter seeking her routes.

Lady Hardcastle mysteries - well written, slightly humourless, easy to read cosy murder.

Jilly Cooper - fun and games and a lot of bonking

Richard Osman, The Thursday Murder Club, very good.

Oh I have the Thursday Murder Club but haven’t started it yet - will give it a go.
I tend to avoid adoption stories as I’m adopted myself (they strangely irritate me - not some deep rooted trauma or anything).

I'm just reading Mrs Bridge by Evan S Connell and absolutely loving it, it's an easy read without being lightweight and inconsequential. It's snapshots - some extremely brief, others longer - from the life of a middle class American housewife in the 1930s/40s. I'd never heard of it until it came up as an Amazon recommendation after I bought a couple of Shirley Jackson books which might give you an idea of the overall tone.
