Should I reread the series before starting the final book?

The third book of a trilogy is in my hands. I’m very excited and looking forward to it. The books came out as follows (and I read them then):

Book 1: 2015
Book 2: 2018
Book 3: now

Having read the first couple of chapters of the new book the story is being lightly revisited and I didn’t reread book 1 to read book 2 but wondering if I should start back at the beginning? They are quite decent sized books and obviously rereading will mean not reading anything new (TBR pile is huge).

What would you do?

I don’t know that it matters, but it is Louis de Berniere’s trilogy from the First World War to post war.

If you want to save time you could just look at the summary from Wikipedia perhaps?

I tried that and they don’t have wiki pages. I tried Goodreads but it’s not really enough detail. These opening chapters are doing a good job of recapping and as I’m reading I’m remembering.

I didn't know that was out, I liked the first two. I don't think I'd bother, you'll remember bits from before as you go along. I can feel a book order coming on as I found out earlier there's a new Laura Purcell out too...

I did that with The Mirror and the Light, and so glad that I did..

I like doing that. I did it with the Jackson Brodie’s series from Kate Atkinson.

@ShipshapeShore there didn’t appear to be very much publicity this time. I found out by accident and it was published in November.

I bought Piranesi on the recommendation of so many. Does anything actually happen in this? Am about to chuck it in disappointment

StColumbofNavron · 22/01/2021 18:50

@dementedma no idea, but I have bought it too as it keeps coming up. It was on Kindle offer so I won’t feel too bad if it is not for me.

I did it last year with a different series and really glad I did.

To update, I read it without rereading. It was wonderful.
