What books would you like to see made...

Into a tv or movie series?

There’s quite a few I would love to see but at the same time, I kinda hope they don’t because no way can a film ever be as good as the books.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas is one I would love to see. But I can’t picture who would play Aelin or Rowan let alone someone like Lysandra or Manon..

Court of thorns and roses by Sarah J Maas would be good too but who on earth would play Rhys?!

It’s so hard...because it would be so nice to watch but I don’t think anyone could do them justice

@BillMasheen

I want a true to the book The Dark Is Rising miniseries, for Christmas, with the first few episodes broadcast on the right days. (Not so important once you get beyond Christmas Day, but the build up from the 20th is brilliant)

I have spent quite some time mulling over the casting.

The film was a bloody abomination.

Hell yeah. The film was...was...just shite.

If made properly it could become a Christmas classic every year.

The Sunne In Splendour by Sharon Penman.

The Wheel of Fortune by Susan Howatch

The Shardlake series

And a proper adaptation of Wuthering Heights by someone who understands the book

For a The Dark Is Rising re-make, would you set it back in the late 70s or present day? I've been pondering the casting too:

Merriman Lyon = could have only been Christopher Lee, but now he's died I think it would have to be Christopher Plummer?

The Lady = Helen Mitten, though maybe not quite old enough?

peaceanddove · 18/01/2021 10:58

Helen Mirren

Expectation by Anna Hope . I thought it was just asking for a movie.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 20/01/2021 09:27

Yy to Wuthering Heights - the relationship between Nellie and Heathcliff is far more interesting than the various (other? hmm...) romances in the book imo so I'd love to see an adaptation focused on their relationship.

The Invisible Ones by Stef Penney would make a fine tv series. I thought it was a gripping, well-told story with a cracking twist at the end and I imagined it being on the telly while I was reading it.

I'd love to see a TV series made of The Sutton's of Yorkshire book series (I'll Bring You Buttercups, Daisychain Summer etc) by Elizabeth Elgin.

Starts just before WW1 & ends a few years after WW2 ends and follows generations of the Sutton family & friends.

River of London would make a great entertaining series

I agree about Wuthering Heights

The Dry by Jane Harper

The Hearts Invisible Furies Smile

I think the Rivers of London is actually in the works as a TV series. Simon Pegg and snick Frost company are doing the adaption with Ben Aaronovitch.

The dark tower TV series as it worked through the entire series. The film they have done is a total bastardisation of the books and I'm staggered king allowed it. Literally a person had read the blurb and made a film from it. It was embarrassing. Needs to be redone properly

Whiskeylover45 · 22/01/2021 03:33

Oh and the hunger games. Properly done and with complete respect to the books. Harry potter can be thrown in there too.

Rants about existing movies aside, my favourite book since being a child was raiders tide and the sequel north side of the tree. Genuinely at 16 I tried writing a screen play for them. I'd love to see them made into movies or TV series.

Kindred.

grannyjacob · 22/01/2021 03:52

C.J.Sansom - Shardlake series.
Ken Follett - Century trilogy.
Simon Scarrow - Macro and Cato series.
Edward Rutherford - any/all of his books.

ShagMeRiggins · 22/01/2021 04:17

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern because I want to see the Cirque de Rèves brought to life. (Still in development)

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion because if they get it right it should easily become a romantic comedy classic. (In development Ryan Reynolds attached)

The Catcher in the Rye (will never happen)

sashh · 22/01/2021 04:58

@powershowerforanhour - the BBC did an adaptation of Z for Zachariah in the mid 80s. We saw it at school. I know my perceptions will have changed since then, but I remember it being more true to the book than the more recent film.

If memory serves it featured Anthony Andrews.

I didn't enjoy 'Rivers of London' as a book, but I can see it as a TV series.

MorvaanReed · 22/01/2021 05:09

Most Georgette Heyer books. As long as they don't sex them up for the sake of it. Though These Old Shades, Devil's Cub and the like could have brothel scenes.

PenCreed · 22/01/2021 14:12

The Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett. Although the budget would have to be huge, and I reckon Lymond would be almost impossible to cast properly.

For a period crime drama, Kaite Welsh's The Wages of Sin would be great.
