Looking for some ideas of a book to get DH for Christmas. What are the men in your life reading and enjoying?

My DH loves reading biographies/autobiographies so for Xmas I have bought him Barack Obama, John Lennon and a book about David Bowie. Last year he was loving the Stella Remington books.

Does he prefer fiction or non-fiction? DFIL is reading The Accidental Further Adventures of the 100 year old man and I was thinking of getting DH the new Stephen Morris autobiography as he loves New Order.

The Moth and the Mountain is a biography of a man who decided he could be the first person to climb Everest even though he had never climbed so much as a hill before. He also learnt to fly so he could fly himself to Tibet. It’s a great yarn and I read it too.

DH doesn't read much but he has enjoyed Stephen Fry's books on greek mythology and Neil Gaiman's book on norse mythology.

PiccalilliChilli · 11/12/2020 08:59

He reads Dan Abnett fantasy books (Warhammer) and the odd biography but generally he doesn't have the attention span.

Thanks for your recommendations.

The moth and mountain looks good but not available until June of next year.

I've bought DH the Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman, I'm not sure if he'll like it or not.

Sadik · 11/12/2020 15:19

Most recently Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom series about Alfred the Great & that period in history - there's 13 of them so he's been reading them for a while!

BlueChampagne · 11/12/2020 15:22

DH is enjoying Iain Banks's Raw Spirit, about whisky.

Lalalatte · 11/12/2020 20:05

Recently the detective McLean books by James Oswald.
CJ Sansom, likes Shardlow plus his other books
Also Jo Nesbo, though he's always slow reading them.

How about Tim Peake’s new book Limitless (Waterstones have signed copies)

I bought by DH a walking guide for our local area, what about something like that?

Have a look at the gift book section on Waterstones - loads of ideas on there
