Great books for teen boy, with a cat on the cover

My DS (14) has often struggled to get into books and takes a while to get through them, reading just a few minutes each night (so short chapters work best). Today he half jokingly said that he's enjoyed every book he's ever read that had a cat on the cover. He was referring to Varjak Paw (when he was a lot younger), A Street Cat Called Bob, and Pet Sematary. So I thought I'd take him at his word and seek out some ideas for more books with cats on the front that might appeal to him. Any ideas?

The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents- might get him into Sir TP who's an amazing author.

Sorry, didn’t mean to post one of those twice.

Not fiction, but a fab comedy writing that my kids love (Not really suitable for pre teens though):
How to tell if your cat is plotting to kill you

Stephen King cat's eye

Pet Cemetery by Stephen King. Might not be age appropriate although I was reading such things at his age.

That was one of the books in the op

And then you could go onto the Witches books - I think all of them have Greebo somewhere on the cover.

Dewey the Library Cat. Probably a bit like Bob the Cat. It’s a sweet story - there’s a sequel too I think.

Felidae by Akif Pirinçci. I vaguely remember reading this years ago. I remember the cats being narky and funny.

Tad Williams - Tailchaser’s Song, fantasy. Not read it, so no idea.

Warriors - Erin Hunter. I want to say Watership Down, but with cats.

Paul Gallico’s Silent Miaow and Thomasina which are lovely. They would be my pick, unless the old-fashioned language might put him off.

Andre Norton’s Catseye, which I enjoyed as a teenager.

The Cats of Seroster by Robert Westall - another one I remember enjoying, but can’t remember much else now.

And there’s always a lovely illustrated edition of TS Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.

This is another good one, think Michael Morpungo has a few with cats!

The alchemaster's apprentice by Walter Moers (Original: Der Schrecksenmeister). DS read this at 14y.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 09/12/2020 10:53

This is such a cool idea, I hope you remember to come back next year and tell us how it went. 😊
