Can you help me with a book on British Monarchs?

Hoping for some help. Can anyone please! recommend a really good (adult) book on the British Monarchy?

I’m looking for one dating right back to the Saxon/Dane period, with a fairly concise but still well detailed summary of each monarch and their reign. Not keen on David Starkey but he probably wouldn’t fit the concise criteria anyway. An engaging or witty style of writing and nice illustrations would be a bonus.

I’ve been looking but there are so many it would be good to have a recommendation. Thank you!

I have one by Antonia Fraser, can't remember the title. It has helpful family trees as well.

Thanks, I think I’ve seen that one, or the one I think it is, and it’s not in print anymore.

@DestinyIsAll - I can highly recommend 'Britain's Royal Families' by Alison Weir. It dates back to King Egbert c780. Easy to use, not too scholarly. I think the latest edition is 2008 and I don't think you'll be disappointed😀

@DestinyIsAll - I've just had another look at my copy and to be fair, it is more genealogy based with a potted history of achievements. Apologies if it's not exactly what you're looking for.

I second the recommendation made by @Winniewonka. It's not witty and it's not illustrated but it has all the details.

Thanks both, I’ll definitely take a look at that one.

A stocking filler introduction book which just gives the juicy headlines of each reign is "Divorced, Beheaded, Died"

Always a good idea to check out Dorling Kingsley catalogue as well.

We had a couple of Ladybird books when my children were still children.
