Reading "Dear Mrs Bird" and makes me feel better about Coronavirus!

After some rather "heavy" reading lately and big hefty books, I wanted something quick and light hearted so picked this up in a charity shop...

Have been reading the last couple of nights and it is very heart warming but at the same time it's set in London in the middle of the bombings during World War II and hearing from the characters what life was like and how terrifying it must be made me feel that all our complaints about Coronavirus are nothing in comparison. Imagine the enemy bombing directly above you and air raids being a regular thing. Rations etc.

Just got to a sad bit in the book and I suppose because we're going through a shit time I just related a bit but also made me feel it could be much much worse... I'm not downplaying Corona bu the way. It is awful and I am hating the way the government is handling it.

Anyway, just thought I'd recommend the book anyway as it is a pure joy to read so far

I read this last Christmas and agree - charming and heartwarming.

I enjoyed it too, lovely light read.

Makes me want to say "Jolly O!" And be terribly giddy around my dear friends 😂

Yes I read this last year and have reflected on it a few times this year

I finished it last night and it did make me smile. Can't help thinking of what the women went through back then.

I loved the book too. My parents' teenage years were disrupted by the War, both left school at 14 and Dad had to join up at 18 and went to Burma. Spending nights in the air raid shelter and waking up to find whole streets reduced to rubble puts today's students' problems in perspective. Not that I don't sympathise with them, I have two grandsons doing exams next year and understand the stress they are going through.

I loved this book too!
