Online book clubs (on Zoom or similar)

Are these a thing? I am not thinking of the big FB book groups with 10k+ membership, or Goodreads, but something smaller.

I used to be a member of a social book club, about 10 of us meeting monthly, similar taste in books, we had a book of the month to discuss but we chatted about other books and recommended books to each other. Kind of like on the 50 books thread but in real life.
When I moved, I couldn't find a similar group and it's the only thing I miss from my old area. In fairness I do live quite rurally now.

I was thinking these type of groups must exist all over the country and must now be online for the foreseeable, so how would I find one?

It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but some Booktubers run more private bookclubs via their Patreon links. You pay via Patreon to join. I'm afraid I don't know any more than that as I don't belong to any. But it might be worth having a look. Try Laurenandthebooks or GettingHyggeWithIt or SavidgeReads on YouTube first to see if you like their taste in books.

Private is probably the wrong word there - makes it sound a bit dodgy Grin. I meant smaller, more personal, so everyone gets to talk.

Thanks, I'll have a look

I don’t belong to a book club at the moment but use the Backlisted podcasts which are free to focus my reading on their book choices every two weeks. There is also a more general discussion podcast on books and the arts, but you have to subscribe to that, called Locklisted. I enjoy them both And find they help me read more widely.
