If I enjoyed these audiobooks, what else will I like?

Recommendations please based on my likes and dislikes! Every time I get an audible credit I tie myself in knots trying to choose my next book. I had to return the last couple I bought because they didn't hit the spot.

Audiobooks I've enjoyed
Life after life, behind the scenes at the museum, transcription, fingersmith, the woman in white, the moonstone, the five, Adam Buxton's ramble book, Jane Eyre, the adventures of Tom Sawyer, case histories (Jackson brodie book 1)

Ones I have returned or did not enjoy
Eleanor Oliphant, heart of darkness, mansfield park, the shellseekers, just one damned thing after another, bleak house, wuthering heights, rivers of london, Jackson Brodie book 2 (because of the narrator and the plot/confusing number of dull characters)

I also enjoyed in book form every Bill Bryson, all Adrian moles, I capture the castle, the lost art of keeping secrets, the paying guests, any human heart. I thought the girl on the train was pretty rubbish.

I hope some of you have similar tastes and can help me out! Smile

Thanks for this list, Fere - I'm always looking for audio recommendations too. Only one I'd query is Girl, Woman, Other. I listened to about half on audio book and returned it because the narrator was so poor and mispronounced so many things. I finished it on kindle and loved it.

I've loved The Miniaturist read by the author, Jessica Burton.

Jessie...stupid predictive text!

cosmopolitanplease · 17/08/2020 13:49

Thanks, keep them coming- I'm always glad of recommendations!

I decided on A God in Ruins in the end; I'm enjoying the story but I'm not sure about the narrator (some man I can't remember). I love the voices of Fenella Woolgar and Susan Jameson for Kate Atkinson's books.

I recently listened to Cranford beautifully narrated by Prunella Scales. I also enjoyed Nick Offerman reading Tom Sawyer. It's wonderful when a book and narrator come together so well.

I didn't like the story of God in Ruins, I remember being so excited when it was published and forced myself to listen to it (I enjoyed Life after life and was hoping that the follow up will live up to it's predecessor.

@nevernobody I didn't notice mispronounciation because I wasn't familliar with those names. I liked how there were different ages of characters and how I was able to see their points of view.
