Just read Helen Fields books and enjoyed them. Like Stuart Mcbride and Simon Kernick. Need a new author now? Any suggestions?

Ian Rankin? Have you read Elly Griffiths or Susie Steiner? Val McDermid, Denise Mina... I don't read a lot of crime, but have read and enjoyed stuff by all of them!

Mrsmorton · 26/06/2020 15:53

Blood orange by Harriet Tyce. It's AMAZING!! And Our House by Louise Candlish. Both absolutely amazing.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/06/2020 16:02

Ann Cleeves - lots to read in both the Shetland and the Vera series, and she's just begun a new one with a new detective too.

Val McDermid is very gruesome in places so be warned if that's not your thing.

Nicci French has a great series set in London - the protagonist is Frieda somebody...

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/06/2020 16:03

Obviously you can go old school - P.D.James and Agatha Christie!

hiredandsqueak · 26/06/2020 16:16

Peter James and Peter Robinson. Susan Hill and Peter May. Alex Gray and Denzil Meyrick. Robert Bryndza and Michael Robotham. I've read and enjoyed the majority of these.

DanceWithYourBalloon · 26/06/2020 16:17

Cormoran Strike series is good

SydneyCarton · 26/06/2020 18:45

Mo Hayder is good, also a bit gruesome sometimes. I like Elizabeth George’s Inspector Lynley series although they are a bit dated now

DanceMonkey19 · 26/06/2020 18:49

Angela Marsons

doyounothavegoogle · 26/06/2020 18:59

Tony Parsons.

ScarletPower · 26/06/2020 19:08

Liz Mistry - she has two series on the go - Gus McGuire and Nikki Parekh - she is AMAZING. They need to be read in order for the back story.

AA Dhand - amazing again - about 4 or 5 books in a series.

Patricia Gibney - series of 8 or 9 books about a detective set in a fictional Irish town.

Rachel Lynch - series of 7 or 8 about a detective set in the Lake District.

And of course Angela Marsons as someone else has recommended.

Happy reading

Kindlingwood · 26/06/2020 19:27

hiredandsqueak · 26/06/2020 20:43

Oh yes Tony Parsons is another one I've enjoyed. K L Slater are easy reading when you don't want anything too taxing.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 26/06/2020 20:59

Ooh, Mark Billingham's Tom Thorne series. And if you want to head over the water to Dublin, Tana French.

Sk1nnyB1tch · 26/06/2020 21:05

I like the Fiona Griffiths books by Harry Bingham

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/06/2020 21:07

Ruth Rendell and Barbara Vine! You can't go wrong.

1moreRep · 26/06/2020 21:09

i love a crime book, i'm a detective in real life so i am a tricky customer.

PD James. Agatha Christie. Ruth Rendell. Barbara Vine. Peter Robinson. Minette Walters.
Robert Galbraith.

MintyCedric · 26/06/2020 21:36

Love the Cormoran Strike books.

If you like audiobooks the Joy Ellis Jackman and Evans series is good and brilliantly read by Richard Armitage.

Have also just discovered Tim Weaver on Audible (You Were Gone) but not had a chance to look into his other books yet.

hiredandsqueak · 26/06/2020 21:46

Oh I binge read the Tim Weaver/David Raker series at the beginning of lockdown Minty. Can wholeheartedly recommend. You might like Michael Robotham as well. I've spent a fortune on books this lockdown.

Shelleygi · 26/06/2020 21:50

I love Martina Cole

MintyCedric · 26/06/2020 22:39

hired I'll definitely check out more of those.

Tbh I only downloaded that particular book because it was partially read by Tom Burke (who plays Cormoran Strike in the TV series) Blush

HarlanWillYouStopNamingNuts · 27/06/2020 10:44

PleasantVille, thanks for the Our House tip.

Ian Rankin is great. Recently I have really enjoyed Joseph Knox's books set in Manchester.

cdtaylornats · 27/06/2020 11:48

Quintin Jardine's Bob Skinner series.
Lin Anderson's Rhona MacLeod series
Elly Griffith's Ruth Galloway series
Reginald Hill's Dalziel and Pascoe series
