Looking for recommendations.

I've read a fair amount of dross that comes under 'psychological thriller' - 'best thriller of 2020' etc, and am really looking for this type of book that doesn't have a load of padding and repetition to stoke the thrill factor.

You know what I mean - when the lead character has their situation/feelings spelt out at least 4 times plus. And I'm thinking - 'yeah, I got it the first time sweetie'

I've enjoyed Liane Moriarty, Lisa Jewell, Louise Candlish and a Mark Thomas one (although the last one I read by him was not great).

I always get sucked in by the 5 star reviews and then when reading, think Really??

Having said all that - it is only light reading, and I'm not expecting a literary masterpiece....

Dross. Lol.
Seven sisters by Lucinda Riley is free on kindle and it’s not crime thriller . Really good though, I loved it.
Body in the marsh by nick Louth was a good wee crime thriller . Free on kindle also.
Did you read our house by Louise candlish ? I finished it couple weeks ago. Good but I was stressing my tits of reading it! She’s good though as is lisa jewel .

Tammy Cohen's When She Was Bad was really good and is on at 99p at the moment.

ShirleyB25 · 25/05/2020 05:43

Lucy Foley's The Guest List is on today. I haven't read it yet, but her others have been very good.

lancashirebornandbred · 25/05/2020 16:26

Quackers, where are the free Lucinda Riley kindle books? I can’t find them.

Quackersandcheese3 · 25/05/2020 17:29

@lancashirebornandbred , just checked it’s not free anymore ! So Sorry. I just downloaded it the other day so assumed it still would be. Apologies for the false info.

Ellmau · 25/05/2020 18:02

Often they're only on that price for a calendar day, so you have to move fast. It's worth keeping a list of books/authors you want to try so you can snap them up when a deal comes up.

Silent Patient?

Seven sisters is really good.

Margaret’s Ark was recommended to me recently, and I think is free. Looks a good book.

I also get sucked in by the five star reviews!

Oh Gawd me too, it's got so I don't even click on anything that has stuff like THE THRILLER OF A DECADE WITH A SHOCKING TWIST YOU'LL NEVER SEE COMING!, often appended to the actual title, wtf is up with that? These days that alone is enough to make me dismiss a book as pap which is probably only true of some of them. Such a crap marketing technique.

Bookmarking for recommendations though as I'm always greedy for good Kindle books. I'll share any gems I come across too.

I had a wry laugh this morning on seeing that The Bell Jar was one of today's daily deals, as it happens I love that book and have read it umpeen times, but hardly uplifting reading for depressing times like these! Grin

The nick Dixon books by Damien Boyd are very good. Quite a few for 99p atm

SnowBrussels · 27/05/2020 21:53

Try Gillian McAllister, one of her books is on offer on Kindle at the moment, 99p. She’s a Mumsnetter too though I haven’t seen her on here recently.

Standrewsschool · 27/05/2020 22:08

Kate Riordan is also worth reading.

ShirleyB25 · 29/05/2020 08:03

I got 'The Good Liar' by Nicholas Searle for 99p the other day.

Really enjoying it - so well written.

I loved Witness X by S. E. Moorhead - crime/psychological thriller about a female detective who can get inside criminals' brains.
